so you want to be a wedding floral designer?

I couldn't be happier for you! Flowers are amazing. In them I've found one of the greatest passions of my life. Their natural beauty never ceases to amaze me, and they have an ability to bring such joy to people's lives. I started The Bloom Academy to share that joy with others, and I'm so pleased to introduce the The Wedding Floral Intensive Workshop Series.

where do I start?

When I entered the wedding industry, the learning curve was STEEP. I often felt lost and frustrated in the early years of my business. How do I know what types of flowers to order? How many of each kind? What do I charge? How much time does it take to do bouquets, bouts, and arrangements? Whats the best method for designing bouquets? How do you create floral installations for ceremonies? So many questions!

I am passionate about two things (well other than my family and friends): flowers and teaching. With this workshop I wanted to create a space for people serious about getting into the wedding/event industry to come, and have all these questions answered. Resources at your fingertips, and the chance to learn how to create beautiful designs hands on, and with help! My hope is you will leave this workshop inspired, and ready to hit the ground running and start your own floral business.

What will we be learning?

This will be a two day intensive workshop. On day one we will be covering the business side of floral design from a wedding/event perspective. Day one we will cover the business side, day two will be full of demonstrations and hands on designing! You can purchase these days a la carte, or bundle them to get the full experience.

Day One:

  • setting up your floral business from scratch

  • collaborating with clients

  • creating recipes and ordering flowers

  • pricing and profitability

  • using social media and collaboration to build your following.

  • Guest speaker and floral designer Andrea K. Grist will be talking to us about wholesale florals and share her knowledge of sourcing local and American Grown flowers.

Day Two:

  • Hand tied, garden style bouquets (hands on)

  • Personal flowers: bouts, floral crowns, and corsages (hands on)

  • Arrangement mechanics and design. Table centerpieces (hands on)

  • Ceremony arches (demo)

***please note, this workshop is geared toward the wedding and event industry, and not a retail floral business or shop.

What's included with the workshop?

We'll have delicious bites, and lunch is also included on day two (design day) of the workshop. Each attendee will be receiving a set of floral tools to use during the workshop and then take home, and a gift bag with some lovely swag! We'll have tons and tons of gorgeous florals for you to use in your designs, containers, and supplies all provided for each student. You'll also leave with a workbook full of information from the workshop so you can reference it anytime, and of course you'll take home your gorgeous designs.

The Studio

We'll be designing at Market Studio. This beautiful, modern space inspires creativity, and is filled with lots of gorgeous light so you can appreciate your blooms from every angle.

Meet your instructor

Hi, I'm Emily, founder and lead designer at The Bloom Academy. I know I've said it before, but I just can't stop (won't stop), I LOVE flowers. I am a self taught floral stylist with a background in fine arts.

I've always loved flowers. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of my grandmothers garden. Admiring her Iris collection and picking fresh strawberries from the garden. Couple that with a love of hand making, and art and you definitely have a florist in the making. I began my journey as a floral stylist in 2008. A trial by fire, I did all my own flowers for my wedding, and I loved it! One thing led to another, and I soon found myself as a full time wedding and event designer. I worked in the wedding industry for 9 years, and while teaching workshops is now my main focus, I still love weddings and take on a few clients each year. You can see some of my favorite events here

During our workshop you will have full access to my floral loving brain. When I was first starting my business, it was through the help of a few amazing mentors that I was able to learn about the ins and outs of the industry, and I hope to offer that same "leg up" to you!

I can't wait to help you start your own floral journey!
